Air freight market overview
Air freight demand increased again in January 2026, maintaining volumes at historically high levels. Trade-lane rotation remained visible across networks. Europe–Asia continued to lead growth, while Intra-Asia flows stayed firmly in expansion territory, helping balance the market despite a comparatively softer Asia–North America corridor. Ocean freight market overview
Although rates declined in January and February, the conflict in the Middle East is now driving increases on Far East–Europe lanes. Emergency surcharges and wider supply chain disruptions are expected to raise rates on additional lanes as well. A significant number of vessels also risk becoming trapped in the Strait of Hormuz as the situation escalates.
